How To Watch English Premier League in UK, US and Australia

The 2018-19 English Premier League season will run from 11 August 2018 until 19 May 2019. The fixtures that will be shown live on TV on the first round of the campaign have yet to be announced, but the matches are as follows:

WATCHING PREMIER LEAGUE ON TV IN THE UK

Live coverage of Premier League matches in the UK is shared between Sky Sports and BT Sport. Both channels require their own subscription packages and it can be quite expensive to subscribe to both via with a Sky or Virgin Media box.

If you don't want to commit to a long-term contract with a provider, Now TV allows you to subscribe on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis allowing you to be flexible with how long you want to pay for. 

On free-to-air TV you can watch highlights of the weekend's action on long-running show Match of the Day, which is shown on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Sky Sports

Sky have been the main player in terms of showing the Premier League live since its inception in 1992, and though they now share responsibilities with BT (and indeed with Amazon, who will show matches via their Prime service in 2019) they retain the vast majority of Premier League matches, owning the 1230GMT slot on Saturday and all the available Sunday slots (usually 1330GMT and 1600GMT), and if you want to see as many games as possible, you will need a subscription.

BT Sport

BT Sport are the junior partner in the broadcasting relationship in the UK, and in 2018/19 they will host the Saturday 1730GMT kick-off times throughout the season, as well as a selection of 1230GMT kick offs on a Sunday for 42 games in total. A subscription with BT also guarantees access to a host of European football content including the Uefa Champions League, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

Now TV

Now TV is a more flexible offering which allows you to sign up to a 24 hour day pass to watch a selection of games, a weekly pass that covers seven days of action, or a rolling monthly pass which can be canclled at any time.

It is the same service and matches that Sky Sports shows but without the same level of commitment.

BBC

The BBC have renewed their contract to broadcast highlights on Saturdays and Sundays (and midweek fixtures) where applicable until the end of the 2021-22 season. You can also stream the show for free online via the BBC Sport website, through the BBC Sport app, and it can be viewed on the BBC iPlayer 24 hours after it has been aired.

WATCHING PREMIER LEAGUE ON TV IN THE US

Cable giant NBC hold the English Premier League rights through until the end of the 2021-22 season, airing every single match, airing every single match across their channels, sometimes on NBCSN, but matches can also be on CNBC or USA. There is also a highlight show available known as the Premier League Goal Zone which offers a roundup of the weekend's action. 

They also offer a Premier League Gold Pass, which does not require a cable subscription and all content can be streamed online. You can find details of what is contained within the Premier League Gold Pass here.

Spanish language viewers in the USA can watch the Premier League on Universo which tends to show 1-2 Saturday games, with Telemundo showing 2-3 Sunday games. 

WATCHING PREMIER LEAGUE IN THE US WITHOUT CABLE

In terms of online access, users to sign up to Roku, which is a device that you power up and connect to the internet to provide access to a number of streaming platforms. You need to set up an account and add a payment method to access the different streaming options available.

FuboTV does not require a cable subscription and has matches from a wide number of leagues. As well as the English Premier League, Fubo also provides access to La Liga, Serie A, MLS, Liga MX and Ligue 1.

There are also other similar services to FuboTV available which allow access to NBCSN for varying costs.

WATCHING PREMIER LEAGUE ON TV IN AUSTRALIA

The Australian telecommunications giants Optus has renewed their contract to show the Premier League through to the 2021/22 season, which includes all online and on demand options.

Optus also announced the launch of a cord cutting subscription option which will users access to Optus Sport via an app available on Google Play.

WATCHING PREMIER LEAGUE USING A VPN

If you want to watch the Premier League outside of the UK but don't have access to TV channels or want to stream online, using a VPN may be an option for you. 

In addition to NBC's Premier League pass (see above), you may want to use a VPN, or virtual private network, which lets you browse from another territory in order to access online facilities in other territories, but you will still need access to their online subscription in order to view the content legally. 

This also applies if you have a UK subscription but are overseas and wish to use your online access. A VPN such as Express VPN will allow you to hide your IP and access your UK accounts (this also applies to betting) from any country in the world by redirecting your IP back to the UK territory.
